Toronto Jazz Composers Collective
The Toronto Jazz Composers Collective (TJCC) is a registered non-profit organization with a mandate to present Canadian music to national and international audiences. The TJCC is actively seeking funding support that will enable it to present the musical activities of the Collective as a performing group, as well as the projects of the individual members. In addition to supporting performing, publishing and recording projects, the TJCC has a mandate as a presenting organization to engage in reciprocal exchanges with similar organizations and agencies from other countries for the purpose of presenting Canadian artists abroad, and is engaged in establishing a network of partners for this purpose. The components of the mandate are:
[1] Performing: The members of the TJCC are well established as professional award winning performers and recording artists, and all lead active careers. The TJCC has received the support of the Toronto Arts Council and was presented by the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival.
[2] Recording and distribution: In Dec. 2008, Roy Patterson released the first CD on the TJCC Audio Series label. Atlantic Blues; The Roy Patterson Trio with Don Thompson, bass, Terry Clarke, drums and Roy Patterson, guitar. (TJCC AS 001)
[3] Publishing: Original compositions by the members and educational materials will be available to the public as printed music. Schedule for 2009 are, "The Compositional Process," interviews with the composers and analysis of their music and, "Harmony For Jazz Guitar," by Roy Patterson.
[4] Education: The work of the individual members of the TJCC as faculty members at the University of Toronto, Humber College, York University and at countless workshops presented while on tour is well documented. The TJCC is committed to all levels of education and offers workshops to institutions and private groups.
[5] Presentation: The TJCC will engage in reciprocal exchanges with national and international presenters.
The TJCC mandate is unique in its scope and represents a turning point in the dissemination of creative Canadian music as we enter the new millennium.
